Needs (part 1) - The Need to Be Loved

Name 10 love songs – (write the titles on the white board)

Pseudo-Pictionary
2 Volunteers
Instructions –
The two volunteers will step out of the room. I will give the group the name of an object. The two volunteers will come back in. Each will go to the whiteboard and try to draw the picture as the group gives them instructions.

We all have 3 basic needs that define who we are, how we are, what we do.
The first one is the need to be loved. (Who needs some lovin’? GEORGE)
1 Volunteer (who can write fast and neat)
Divide the group (Media / Friends / Parents, Teachers)
Tell “X” what love is, what it looks like, and where to find it.

It’s that big hole that’s right in the middle.

I looked for love in relationships – A natural place to look, right?
A different girlfriend every year of high-school
Every one of them ended in serious pain, either for me or her.
Of course, there was always mom and dad
My mom and dad both love me very much. Our relationship has changed as I’ve gotten older, but we still have a special relationship. I can always depend on my parents for love.
What about when they are gone?

This is what I see –
The need for love is at the core of who we are. We can make or break a person’s day by giving it or by withholding it.
What are our responses to the need –
1) Deny the need exists.
2) Have sex (make love).
3) Allow yourself to be abused (physically or emotionally).
We live in a world where false love is put out there as the real thing. Lives are destroyed because of it. Teenage girls are getting pregnant all the time, because they think they’ve found love. Or if they give it up, then they will have ‘earned’ the right to be loved. Teenagers go into depressions all the time because they can’t find that love that they need.

Where is that perfect love that will not let you down, that love that will not hurt or abuse you, that love that will be there forever?

What do you think about what we’ve been talking about tonight? Does this hit home for you?

Where are you looking for love?

What do you see when you look at the lives of your peers? What are they doing to get love?

Some verses to guide you in your discussion.
